Hull - May 2019
Folder: Buses, coaches, trams by place/area (UK)
The city of Kingston-upon-Hull, known simply as Hull, takes its name from the less obvious River Hull rather than the significantly larger River Humber into which the River Hull flows.
The two dominant bus operators in the city are Stagecoach in Hull (licensed as Lincolnshire Road Car Company) and East Yorkshire (now part of the Go-Ahead Group).

Thursday 2 May 2019 (1439) – Stagecoach in Hull 10736 (SN66 VXD), an Alexander Dennis Enviro400D MMC new in October 2016, seen turning from Spencer Street to Prospect Street in Hull as it arrived from Bridlington on service 99.
In recent weeks Stagecoach had secured the contract to operate the Bridlington Park and Ride service. Service 99 is a creation to position the buses from Hull and offers suitable timings for a day at the seaside. Creatively the literature for the service features that iconic seaside treat, a ‘99’ ice cream cone with a chocolate flake.

Friday 3 May 2019 (1331) – East Yorkshire Motor Services once had a key obstacle on its route network in the form of the 15th century North Bar at Beverley.
www.ipernity.com/doc/stiffleaf/42875150
The Bar has a Gothic shaped arch under which the buses had to pass. Using single deckers was possible but in order to use higher capacity double deckers EYMS met the challenge by having them built to match the shape of the arch. In the early 1970s a by-pass was constructed in the town and buses had no longer a need to pass under the arch thus enabling normal profile buses to be purchased thereafter.
The company retains one of the 1956 Willowbrook bodied AEC Regent Vs in its heritage fleet in the form of 644 (VKH 44) which carries the indigo, cream and white livery the company was noted for.
These photos depict buses passing through the arch:
