A&P Travel premises at Barway - 8 May 2011 (DSCN5598)

Sunday 8 May 2011 (1251) - A&P Travel (Brown and Hobbs?) of Barway, Cambridgeshire operated quite a number of deep yellow coloured double deckers on school and works contracts.
These three buses have an interesting past. In 1985 Grey-Green Coaches of London bought some Plaxton Paramount bodied Volvo B10M coaches when the company was primarily a coach operating business. In the late 1980s the company moved more into tendered London bus operations and in 1992 it was decided to rebody about 18 coaches with East Lancs double deck bus bodies. Three of the re-bodied vehicles are seen here (B870 XYR, B871 XYR and B872 XYR).
The overall length of the rebodied buses was shorter than the coaches but the distance between the front and rear wheels was not changed resulting in the rear wheels and axle being almost at the back of the bus with only a small overhang. As coaches the rear overhang contained the luggage boot.
The following link shows a photograph of B868 XYR which is now preserved in Grey-Green bus livery: www.ipernity.com/doc/davidslater-spoddendale/49330338
The white vehicle on the right is G122 KUB, an Optare bodied Mercedes-Benz 811D
