Sheffield Supertram set 22 above Park Square roundabout in Sheffield – 9 Oct 1995 (290-04)

Sheffield Supertram set 22 above Park Square roundabout in Sheffield – 9 Oct 1995 (290-04)
Monday 9 October 1995 – The Supertram network in Sheffield commenced in the Spring of 1994 with the first stage between Sheffield city centre to Meadowhall. The infrastructure owned by the South Yorkshire PTE was operated by a wholly owned subsidiary of the PTE named South Yorkshire Supertram Limited. SYSL was sold to Stagecoach in December 1997.

Twenty five trams sets were built by Siemens-Düwag of Germany to operate the system and until the sale of SYSL to Stagecoach the tram sets operated in a grey based livery.

One of the key features of the city centre infrastructure spans the Park Square roundabout. Tram set 22 is crossing into the elevated centre of the roundabout on one of the three lines that meet at a triangular double track junction.

The destination display shows ‘Halfway’ which is a locality rather than indicating this was a short run.

John FitzGerald, Nouchetdu38, Fred Fouarge, Rosalyn Hilborne have particularly liked this photo
