On board Sheffield Supertram set 25 – 9 Oct 1995 (290-08)

Monday 9 October 1995 – The Supertram network in Sheffield commenced in the Spring of 1994 with the first stage between Sheffield city centre to Meadowhall. The infrastructure owned by the South Yorkshire PTE was operated by a wholly owned subsidiary of the PTE named South Yorkshire Supertram Limited. SYSL was sold to Stagecoach in December 1997.

Twenty five trams sets were built by Siemens-Düwag of Germany to operate the system. The sets feature three sections, the centre section is higher than the other two cab ended sections. The latter contain the doors which align with the platform level for wheelchair access.
