Burtons Coaches G234 BRT (ex MOD) at Mildenhall - 31 Oct 1999 (404-12A)

Burtons Coaches G234 BRT (ex MOD) at Mildenhall - 31 Oct 1999 (404-12A)
Saturday 31 October 1998 (1005) - On Monday 26 October 1998 there were many changes made to the bus services in Suffolk including those between Mildenhall and Bury St. Edmunds which saw the biggest changes for decades. Two circular services were introduced (Bury St. Edmunds-Flempton-Icklingham-Mildenhall-Red Lodge-Tuddenham-Bury St. Edmunds) with Eastern Counties Omnibus Company working the anti-clockwise service 356 (as outlined above) and Burtons Coaches working the clockwise service 355. On this wet morning Burtons Coaches G234 BRT was seen at King Street Mildenhall working the 0915 service from Bury St. Edmunds (due back at Bury at 1045). It is a former Ministry of Defence Plaxton Derwent bodied Leyland Tiger which had yet to be painted in Burtons own livery (see next two photos). The bus had had an interesting existance having previously been operated by the Royal Air Force and stationed in Hong Kong. Like many MOD buses it featured large full height opening doors for maximum access so that it could carry equipment and, in times of necessity, it could be converted to an ambulance.
