Taken in the Sanibel Reserve, Florida, anhingas resemble cormorants but are members of the darter family, and are also called snakebirds - with their bodies under water and only their necks exposed when swimming, they resemble snakes. In between swimming they need to dry out their feathers, or they cannot fly.

Useppa Island is where part of the Bay of Pigs invasion team practised for the disastrous attack by the CIA on Cuba. It used to be the fishing haunt of wealthy Northerners in the early part of the 20th century - the tarpon fishing in the area is outstanding, still.
