My late father was in Dad's army in WW2, where he was the radio man... He was a driver on the railway, so he did his bit in other ways, which he never talked about... I remember he would send MISSISSIPPI..in morse. tapping it on the dinner table!!..

Best wishes, John.

That's an interesting picture Doug. The changes since then don't bear thinking about and it doesn't seem so long ago to me! All the best, Rosa.

Thanks so much for your visit and kind comment Rosa. As you say it seems not so long ago. Although the use of morse code was declining by that period it was always the part of my telecomms work that I enjoyed the most.

An image of great interest to me, I worked for a while storing and dispatching those and other H/F units, nice photo and good memories to have.

Thanks for tour visit Roger, much appreciated. The Racal RA17 was a fine receiver, certainly the best I ever used.

Ce genre de communication était très utilisé plutôt par les militaires
et surement il a du sauver pas mal de personne.
Bonne fin de semaine.

Fab insight of you on that modern set up of the time Doug, My father was a welder during WW2 and could not join up although he tried twice, so joined dads army and used to patrol the Rainham Essex area along and around the river thames. Regards, Bill.

Hello Bill, thanks for your visit, much appreciated. Pretty sure that morse has all but died in the world of commercial/military communications, all good things must come to an end I suppose, sigh;-(

The only that most people think they know about Morse code, is that SOS represents Save Our Souls. As you know, Doug, It doesn't!

Doug Shepherd club has replied to Andy Rodker club
As far as I know SOS was chosen because has no meaning therefore could not be confused with anything else, unlike perhaps its predecessor CQD (CQ = all stations). The thee dots, three dashes, three dots of the Morse code are very distinctive when heard, believe me!
