I visited a symposium in Baton Rouge in 1986 and following I made a roundtrip (alone) over New Orleans, San Francisco, through several National Parks in the West to Phoenix by a rented car, then Chicago, Toronto and New York. All images are scannes slides, taken with a Minolta X700, using mostly Fujichrome100 films. Flying was quite cheap in the US. I had a TWA pass and paid 70 bucks for each dome…

Hoover Dam - Power House - 1986 - HFF!

There are two powerhouses on each river side. This image shows the generators on the Nevada side, the turbines are situated below. In total there are the following turbines: 13×130 MW, 2×127 MW, 1×68.5 MW, 1×61.5 MW Francis-type, and 2×2.4 MW Pelton-type. The total power is 2080 MW, which is a lot more than the biggest nuclear power plant in Germany, which is Isar/Ohu 2 with 1485 MW - and it's renewable energy! The Great White Throne (2056 m) is a rock tower, composed of white Navajo Sandstone in Zion National Park in Utah The north face rises 720 m from the floor of Zion Canyon near Angels Landing (to the right). It is often used as a symbol of Zion National Park.
