Since many years a song of Bob Dylan dignifies the Victims of Mountaineering in the Hall of Fame within the Messner Mountain Museum (Bozen, South Tyrol, shown in the picture). A visit is worthwile! Tonight the song's creator hinself has been honoured by the Nobel Commitee. Now both are on the roof of the world. Dylan as well as Messner. ~~~~~ Seit vielen Jahren ehrt Dylans "Blowing in the Wind" die Opfer des Alpinismus in der Ehrenhalle des Messner-Mountain-Museums in Bozen (Südtirol.) Ein Besuch ist absolut lohnenswert! Gestern ist der Songschreiber mit dem Literaturnobelpreis geehrt worden. This trail via the crushed rock changes it's position from season to season - depending on the treatment by hikers. ~~~~~ Der Weg über das Schotterfeld verläuft von Saison zu Saison anders - je nachdem, wie die Menschen ihn formen.

Via this trail trought the 'Val Setus' normal hikers go upwards to the Pisciadu. ~~~~~ Dies ist der Normalweg zum Pisciadu durch das Val Setus. ~~~~~ Bei diesem Abstieg hat man übrigens einen guten Blick auf die Pass-Straße, die von Corvara zum Grödner Joch hochführt:

Each and every difficult part of this "standard route upward" is well ensured by a fixed iron rope. ~~~~~ Alle schwierigen Stellen dieses "Normalwegs" sind gut mit Stahlseilen abgesichert.

Climbers wear well coloured shirts. Hikers like brown, green, khaki, etc. And what's about black men? Agents, artists . . . or photographers! ~~~~~ (Ich übersetzt das besser mal nicht. Ist nicht ganz ernst gemeint. Mir gefällt übrigens der Sicherheitsabstand des Kollegen zur Felskante. ;-)))

My wife (and attendant while mountaineering) at the edge of the Bruneck Rock. (View to northern direction.) The mountain mass left-hand in the background is the Geissler Group with the Sas Rigais (3.025m, at the very left) and the Pizes de Puez (2.913m, in the center of the picture). The red coloured bedrock bar in front of the Geissler Group is the southern edge of the Puez-Group with the prominent Sassongher (2.665m) at the south-eastern end (right-hand underneath the clouds). Left-hand in the foreground the cliffy descent through the Val Setus - a narrow, shadowy valley, surrounded by vertical rocks. This is our way down. You may choose it as an alternative way up without climbing. An ordinary mountain hiker needs approximately two hours for the 650 meters of altitude. ~~~~~ Meine Frau (und Weggefährtin bei den Bergtouren) an der Kante des Brunecker Turms. (Blick nach Norden). Das Gebirgsmassiv links im Hintergrund ist die Geisler-Gruppe mit dem Sas Rigais (3.025m, ganz links) und den Pizes de Puez (2.913m, in der Bildmitte). Der davor liegende rötliche Felsriegel ist die Südkante der Puez-Gruppe mit dem markanten Sassongher (2.665m) als südöstlichem Abschluss (ganz rechts unter den Wolken). Links im Vordergrund geht es steil runter ins Val Setus - einer engen, schattigen, von steilen Felswänden umrahmten Schlucht. Für uns ist das die Abstiegsroute. Man kann sie allerdings auch als alternativen Zustieg ohne Kletterei wählen. Für die 650 Höhenmeter braucht ein durchschnittlicher Bergwanderer rund zwei Stunden.

At the eastern end of Lake Pisciadù the waters are flowing through this small lake, which is situated some meters lower than the main lake. (Notice: all this happens in 2.540m of altitude.) ~~~~~ Am östlichen Ende des Lago Pisciadù fließt das Wasser durch diesen winzig kleinen, etwas tiefer gelegenen See (in 2.540m Höhe), bevor es (hinten rechts) zu Tal rauscht. ~~~~~ Lake Pisciadù 500 meters below

The Mountain 'Sas da Lech' (2.934m) is situated at the northern bank of the Lake Pisciadù. It isn't accessible for hikers, but only for alpine climbers. Behind the summits another lovely lake is situated, the 'Lech di Dragon'. We will visit it another time. ~~~~~ Der Sas da Lech (2.934m) liegt am nördlichen Ufer des Pisciadù-Sees. Er ist für Wanderer nicht zugänglich, nur für Alpinkletterer. Jenseits der Felstürme liegt jedoch noch ein anderer wunderschöner See (Lech di Dragon), den wir ein anderes Mal besuchen werden. Das wird dann allerdings eine längere Tour mit Hüttenübernachtung. (Das Bild ist leider etwas unscharf. Es wird beim nächsten Besuch wiederholt.)

Very high at the Exner Rock you have to cross over an adventuresome plank bridge to achieve the Bruneck Rock. The cleavage is hundreds of meters deep (look at the topography). ~~~~~ Hoch oben am Exner Turms ist eine abenteuerliche Übergangsbrücke zum Brunecker Turm. Sie überspannt einen hunderte Meter tiefen Spalt (siehe Topo). ~~~~~

Sometimes ago somebody asked me, why climbers always wear such intensive coloured clothes. I suppose, the reason is, that they are easier to be detected by the crew of an rescue helicopter. ~~~~~ Ich wurde mal gefragt, warum Kletterer eigentlich immer so grell farbige Kleidung tragen. Ich glaube, damit man sie im Falle eines Falles vom Hubschrauber aus besser sieht . . . .

Most of the time the safeguard is only cumbersome. But while climbing, the one and only moment you don't use it, may be the last one of your life. (It once happened to my wife, that she tumbled. Im a lucky man, that she's still alive.) ~~~~~ Die meiste Zeit sind die Sicherungskarabiner einfach nur hinderlich. Aber der eine Moment, wo man nachlässig ist, kann der letzte des ganzen Lebens sein. (Einmal ist es meiner Frau passiert, dass sie abstürzte. Ich bin glücklich, dass sie gesichert war und nichts passierte.) ~~~~~ Here is the situation, where my wife fell into her safeguard - only a few seconds after the photo-shooting. It was a stroke of luck for herself and for me - but less for the photographer, who missed a spectacular photo (She hanging beneath the rock, looking very surprised....)

The trail leads via a well stepped, easily climbable rock mass. Well to be seen is the massive iron cable for the snap hooks. ~~~~~ Der Weg führt über gut gestuften, leicht kletterbaren Fels aufwärts. Gut zu sehen ist das durchgehende dicke Stahlseil, in das die Sicherungskarabiner eingehängt werden.
