1977 Lancia Beta Monte-Carlo - THW 547S

15 Jun 2013 1 3 825
This lovely Pininfarina designed mid-engined sports car was produced by Lancia in Italy from 1975 to 1981. This is actually one of two shots I'm uploading of this car so please have a look at them both and see what's troubling me about it because believe me there's something not quite right. Oh, and while you're at it you might be able to tell me if these models should be described as Monte Carlo or Montecarlo. Wikipedia says the latter, but I'm not totally convinced as the badge has it hyphenated.

Texture Like Sun ...

The theme for The Sunday Challenge this week was middle of the day ... as simple as that, or not as the case may be. I did think about doing some arty farty macro style shots of a clock face or a watch, but I used an image of the clock tower at All Saints Church in Northallerton just a couple of weeks back so I rules those ideas out. Eventually, I just decided to go take the camera outside one day over lunch, starting from just before midday until just after 1.00pm and shoot whatever I saw that took my fancy ... yes, I was starting to get that feeling of desperation that being involved with TSC can produce. I took several shots around town, but the one I've opted to use was taken in my back garden. I noticed that the bright midday sun was striking a small pile of fallen leaves and creating some lovely shadows. It might not look like it was taken in the early afternoon, but believe me it was ... honest! www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7R7q1lSZfs

Happy New Year ...

01 Jan 2015 9 17 437
I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who took time last year to: visit my photostream; add me onto their contacts; comment on my photos; or contribute to the groups I administer here on ipernity. Your support and friendship is very much appreciated and I wish you all the very best for the New Year! Health, wealth and happiness as they say! Kind regards PAUL NOTE: If you're in a slightly sensitive condition following the celebrations I would perhaps suggest you don't hit z to view this one large!

1960 Ford Thames 400E - 537 UXT

15 Jun 2013 8 4 1257
The Ford Thames 400E was a commercial vehicle made by Ford of Britain and introduced in 1957. This particular one as you can see though is not your average van. Used by Storthes Hall Hospital Fire Brigade it was based at the psychiatric hospital in West Yorkshire and served as a fully functioning, but very small, fire engine. Once again, not quite what you exect to come across at a classic car show.

1956 Volvo TP21 - GSL 844

15 Jun 2013 9 4 1306
Not quite what you exect to come across at a classic car show. The popular name given to the Volvo TP21 by its users was Sugga, that translates from Swedish to “sow” in English. You can read more about one in particular by following the link below: totalcarmagazine.com/classicandbeloved/2013/06/23/volvo_tp21_sugga_1956

A different view of those two lovely Minors from earlier. In the foreground is NLM 259E, a Traveller from 1967 and behind that, TNN 855, a saloon from 1955.

1950 Jaguar XK120 - KRU 600

15 Jun 2013 1 1037
The Jaguar XK120 was manufactured by Jaguar between 1948 and 1954. It was the company's first sports car since the SS 100, which ceased production in 1940. The standard of finish on this one was superb, but for some reason I only came away with this detail shot ... I can only assume that there were always too many people around it to get a clean shot of it overall. Hopefully, I'll get another chance somewhere else to shoot it.

Classics In The Sun ...

When the last Capri was made in the Eighties, 1,886,647 cars had rolled off the various production lines. Most of those (more than a million) were the MkI, because the MkI sold well in North America and Australia, while the MkII and MkIII were only exported outside Europe (to Asia and New Zealand) in limited numbers. With the Beetle, Mini, Fiat 500 and the Scirocco, to name but 4 'old' cars that have been rejuvenated and revamped in recent years you do wonder if Ford are missing a trick by not having resurrected the Capri brand? Can't help but think that there would be massive interest in a MkIV Capri, especially here in the UK.

1966 Triumph TR4A - NAN 423D

15 Jun 2013 4 9 1538
The Triumph TR4A was built between 1965 and 1968 by the Triumph Motor Company here in the United Kingdom. It was not surpisingly an evolution of the TR4, updated with a new chassis. It was hoped the new, but more complex independent rear suspension would address the buying public's desire for more comfortable riding sports cars. However, in response to dealer requests, about 25 percent of TR4As were produced with a solid rear axle option (also called a live axle), similar to the earlier TR4 whilst those with the new set up have an "IRS" badge on the rear. I doubt if a more suggestive and striking mascot than the "Spirit of Ecstacy" has ever been produced. What I didn't realise though was that the original design was based on an actual person: Eleanor Velasco Thornton. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_of_Ecstasy

Dogs At Car Shows ...

Another cute four-legged friend spotted at the show, which actually looked like it was having a good time. I think this may be some kind of Spaniel?

1999 TVR Cerbera - T180 KAD

15 Jun 2013 1 2 671
Something a little bit newer now. The TVR Cerbera was manufactured by TVR between 1996 and 2003. The name is derived from Cerberus, the three-headed beast of Greek legend that guarded the entrance of Hades.

I really like these calormeters you often find sat atop the radiators on some old cars. Just a shame I forgot to make a note of which car it was on.
