It looks like a halved apple and is made of granite, a popular tourist attraction in the waters of the Tasman Sea.

The Spit runs in east-west direction over a length of 32 kilometers, of which over 26 are above sea level. It was created by the exreme currents of the Cook Strait, through which the sand is accumulated in this saber-shaped form.
