The prefecture of Ancona
The tower, originally from the 14th century, was rebuilt in 1581. In 1806 it was equipped with a carillon (playable glockenspiel) by master watchmaker Antonio Podrini. Four bells played the melody.
Ancona is the capital of the Italian Marche region. It is an important port city on the Adriatic coast. Parts of the medieval centre were bombed during the Second World War, because there are still many old monuments and squares.
