Der Bau der neuen Festung stammt aus dem späten sechzehnten Jahrhundert, Architekt Buontalenti*
(Bernardo Buontalenti mit dem Beinamen delle Girandole (* 15. Dezember 1531 in Florenz; † 6. Juni 1608 ebenda) war ein italienischer Maler, Architekt und Theatermaschinist der Renaissance)
Die Festung war einst ein zentraler Bestandteil des Schutzes von Livorno.
1589 beauftragte der Großherzog Francesco I de’ Medici den Architekten Bernardo Buontalenti, eine neue Festung zu entwerfen, um die Stadt vor Piratenangriffen zu schützen. Daraufhin wurde dieses massive Bauwerk errichtet.

Leider fiel gestern Abend der Open Air: WHITNEY - CAN I BE ME dem Wetter zum Opfer und er mußte im Kursaal gezeigt werden. sonst wäre es mal wieder traumhaft gewesen bei Vollmond Open Air *******

No. Leghorn is the English name for Livorno, believe it or not!!!! I think it is possible that the chicken came from there!
