Madagascar, Crowned Lemur (Eulemur coronatus) in the Forest of Palmarium Reserve
The crowned lemur (Eulemur coronatus) has a dark marking on its crown, giving it its name. Females have gray fur with a crown that's close to orange; males are darker, with a black and orange crown. The tail is long, used for balance when jumping from branch to branch. Its length ranges from 31 to 36 cm, and it weighs approximately 2 kg. The tail's length ranges from 42 to 51 cm.
Lemuridae is a family of prosimians, a suborder of primates, endemic to Madagascar. In ancient Rome, the word "lemur" meant ghost (or spirit). The name lemur was given to this group of animals because they are primarily nocturnal. These animals range in size from a mouse to a small dog.
