Tarangire, Mound of Termites

Termite Mound - aboveground part of the termite dwelling. It is made of sand, clay, wood chips and other natural materials, fastened with saliva of termites. Termite Mound is built up constantly while the colony of inhabiting termites is alive, and for several hundred years it can grow up to 5 meters in height. The largest known Termite Mound reaches a height of 12.8 m. It is believed that Termite Mound is one of the largest structures created by land animals.
