1947 Ectropis bistortata (Engrailed)

1947 Ectropis bistortata (Engrailed)
Geometridae, Ennominae Wingspan: 30-44mm.

A common species throughout the UK, it is widespread in Cornwall. The cross-forewing bands are all less jagged than the smaller 1945 Brussels Lace, and the overall colouring of all wings is more brownish, with counter shading of the cross lines in a more orange-brown. Another helpful feature to confirm this species is the two rows of black dots along the back of the abdomen. When intense, some may merge together.

The flight season in the south of the UK is made up from two generations, March to mid May, and mid June to August. At times, a third generation may occur September / October. In Cornwall, the generations overlap, with occasional individuals possible throughout the year in favourable weather.
