A view to Baleal peninsula.

Long ago Baleal was an island. An isthm of sand increased throughout the centuries, until it became a peninsula of Peniche, which had also been an island, until an isthm of sand definitely connected it to the mainland. We can see remains of the Frenchmen's Fortlet and part of the outer islet. HFW!

This is a view to north from the village Praia da Consolação. On the background you can see the city of Peniche. In the Middle Ages it was an island but Nature created an isthm, so now it's a peninsula. HFW!

Displayed in the Bobbin Lace Museum, at Marquês de Pombal Street, Peniche. One characteristic of the bobbin lace of Peniche is that there is no front or back side: it looks exactly the same if you turn around one of these products.

Displayed in the Bobbin Lace Museum of Peniche, at Marquês de Pombal Street. The reason why you can find this reproduction in this museum lies on the fact that Baby Jesus is covered with local bobbin lace: the 17th century paintress lived in this region (Óbidos is a neighbouring council), so it shows that this bobbin lace already existed in that century.
