Leave the Light On (PiPs)

Leave the Light On (PiPs)
Taken at the Isle Of Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The white square tower with the navigation light has been a navigation aid for hundreds of years and is situated on the most southerly point of the headland with wonderful views of the Kircudbrightshire coastline, the Lake District and the Isle of Man.

There is a bench all around the base of the tower.

During the Second World War, an anti-aircraft tracking station was set up here for firing practice.

There is now a memorial stone here dedicated to the fishing boat, the Solway Harvester lost in a storm in 2000 off the coast of the Isle of Man with the loss of seven lives. An anchor is set into the granite block.

I have added Tom Walker and ' Leave a Light on'

and a second link with heartbreaking words - Beth Hart and 'Leave the Light On'

An fine collection of shots of this interesting structure Carol. I especially like the PiP of the memorial to those lost from the Solway Harvester. Thanks for the interesting notes.

All the best, Doug

A very well framed photo, Carol. Lots of detail here. Two well matched musical links for 'Sight and Sound'. The Beth Hart one (heart-breaking words for sure) is very familiar and it could be on an album I downloaded a long time back. Not played the album in recent times so need to try and find it. Not sure if it was downloaded from Amazon or iTunes but should be a fairly easy task to do a search methinks :-)

Thank you very much Roger. The Beth Hart song is from the album entitled 'Leave the Light On'
The words get to me on that one. Good luck and I hope you find it.
