WP1921 WPG - UNION BANK OF CANADA (INTERIOR)
Date: The handwritten note on the back includes a date that appears to read March 22nd (19)12.
Publisher / Photographer: Lyall Commercial
A rare image of the interior of the Union Bank of Canada at the SW corner of Main Street & William Avenue in Winnipeg.
The handwritten note on the reverse reads: “Dear Mother, as you see I am in Winnipeg. Hope you like these views – am settled up with Mrs.B. Will write all particulars in next letter, am getting on fine. Am still…” (Continued on the reverse of my card WP1920, Vics. V. Eatons) “…going East. Hoping you are all quite well. With love to all, Leslie.”
Of interest in the image:
* The marble tables (presumably for the use of customers) in the centre of the image both have desk pads on the near end and what could be ink wells.
* Oddly (to me), at the front of the closest table, there is an abacus. I am speculating that it was in place to take advantage of the Bank's proximity to Winnipeg's China Town and encourage patronage from its merchants and inhabitants.
* The clock appears to read 3:17.
