Der Heilige Ibis oder Pharaonenibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus) ist eine Vogelart aus der Familie der Ibisse und Löffler (Threskiornithidae) und lebte ursprünglich fast ausschließlich in Afrika.
Der Heilige Ibis bzw. Pharaonenibis wird 65 bis 75 cm groß und hat eine Flügelspannweite von 112 bis 124 cm. Er hat ein weitgehend weißes Gefieder mit Ausnahme einiger schwarzer Federn an den Flügeln. Der Kopf ist schwarz. Beide Geschlechter haben die gleiche Gefiederfärbung, Männchen sind etwas größer als Weibchen.
Heilige Ibisse oder Pharaonenibisse fliegen zumeist in linien- oder keilförmigen Formationen. Im alten Ägypten wurde die Art als Inkarnation des Gottes Thot verehrt. Daher stammt auch sein veralteter Name. Er wurde oft in künstlerischen Arbeiten dargestellt. In Ibisfriedhöfen in Sakkara wurden 1,5 Millionen Ibisse bestattet, in der Grabstätte Tuna el-Gebel circa vier Millionen.
Eine enge Beziehung zum Ibis hatten die alten Ägypter, die den Gott Thot mit dem Kopf eines Ibisses darstellten. Dass Ibisse alljährlich zu den Überschwemmungen des Nils in Ägypten erschienen, mag der Grund für ihre Verehrung gewesen sein. Ibis-Darstellungen findet man auf Wandmalereien, mumifizierte Ibisse wurden in Gräbern entdeckt.

Gesehen im Parco Natura Viva. Das ist ein Wildpark in Bussolengo, in der Provinz Verona, nicht weit vom Gardasee entfernt. Es gibt viele gefährdete Arten, die der Park behütet und dann wieder in die Wildnis einfügt. Seit Jahren beteiligt sich der Park an zahlreichen Naturschutzprojekten zum Schutz und Erhalt gefährdeter Flora und Fauna.
Der Parco Natura Viva ist ein moderner zoologischer Park, ein wichtiges Zentrum für den Schutz der biologischen Vielfalt.
