Ōhinemutu is a village of the Ngāti Whakaue tribe on the shores of Lake Rotorua and preceded the town of Rotorua of which it is now a suburb.
Ōhinemutu is also a thermal area and it can happen that people wake up to a new thermal feature in their backyard;-)

Mani Wall
| |
|
|
|
Buddhists place mani stones inscribed with mantras (Om mani padme hum) into walls which are meant to be circumambulated in a clockwise direction.
In Bhutan mani walls are usually short, this one in Bumthang's Choekor valley is an exception.

After lying dormant for more than a century, Tongariro erupted in 2012 at upper Te Māri Crater. There were two eruptions, one in August and a much smaller one on 21 November. When we passed the mountain 6 days later there was still some activity.

SSC363: Irisation

Coromandel Walkway

|

Coromandel Walkway is a walking track round the northernmost tip of the Coromandel peninsula between Fletcher Bay and Stony Bay. Road access to both bays is by narrow unsealed roads that often are in a bad state -as is the walkway, currently partially closed due to landslides.
