I didn't mean to be away for so long.... In October the last hotel had bed bugs. so back home I had to freeze everything I had in that hotel room for at least 3 days - cameras included. That took quite some time with only a fridge freezer, I had to do it in batches.
Then the hot water boiler broke and had to be replaced, then the heating was defect and to top it all a pipe broke in the flat above and the water came down.... So I was a bit preoccupied;-)

Everything! or you risk bringing the buggers into the house- they like to hide under light switches or wallpaper. Once you have them in the house you'll have to dismantle half the flat to get rid of them again- I didn't want that;-)

I'm glad to say that the cameras survived- memory cards and accus out, put in freezer bags and after they come out of the freezer leave them in the bag for at least another day. The Canon went first, only after that came out alright did I dare to freeze the Q2;-)

Danke vielmals, Frank! Was denkste, wie ich ich mich gefühlt habe, als ich in dem Hotel nachts vom Jucken aufgewacht bin und die Wanzenbisse gesehen habe.... Sofort das ganze Gepäck ins Bad, alles weggeschmissen, was ich an hatte und daheim dann alles in die Badewanne (da sähe man die Tierchen krabbeln und sie kommen auf der glatten Oberfläche nicht raus).
Ich kann nicht behaupten, dass ich sehr gelassen war;-)

Jetzt schaue ich in jedem Hozelzoimmer zuerst unter die Matratze und das Leintuch;-)

When I used to go to the Artic Circle I had a plastic bag to put camera inside if I spent more than 10 mn outside. I also had made kind of down bag with two openings for the hands and one for the lens…

Yes, that's wise to avoid condensation! I didn't have a down bag but something similar in waterproff synthetic to protect hands and camera against the rain (some days I really needed it)

Das kann dir leider überall passieren, auch in den Fächern für Handgepäck in Flugzeug! Die meisten Hotels hatten da schon Probleme, es wird nur immer sehr diskret gehandhabt, wenn der Kammerjäger kommen muss.

Oh dear, such trials and tribulations..!! I hope you're all sorted out now.

The bedbug thing is awful...........it happened to my daughter and her boyfriend a few years again when they were on holiday in Egypt. They had to do pretty much the same thing (but without the cameras)! Luckily the hotel accepted some responsibility and refunded some of their money. They also offered another visit free (which they refused) funnily enough..!!

Most is sorted out! The insurance are dragging their feet and the wet patches have dried in the meantime...
I can understand your daughter well, I wouldn't have been keen on another holiday in that hotel:-) But of course even the best hotels can have that problem, people (unwittingly) bring the bugs in their luggage.

Braucht man nicht, gell;-) Eine frühere Kollegin hatte mal das Vergnügen mit den Bettwanzen, die hatte ihr Sohn aus Nepal mitgebracht und sie haben es erst nach einer Weile bemerkt. Da mussten wirklich alle Tapeten runter und Fußbodenleisten weg etc....
