Ohrringe aus Jett (Gagat, Pechkohle)

Wiki: Gagat – auch Jett oder Pechkohle genannt – ist durch Humus­gel oder Bitumen imprägniertes tiefschwarzes fossiles Holz, das sich in einem Übergangsstadium von der Braunkohle zur Steinkohle befindet.

Obwohl ich die Ohrringe vor dem Fotografieren geputzt/ entstaubt habe, sieht man im Macro wieder mal jede Menge Staub und Kratzer;-)

Lovely earrings! In my grandmother's time, jett jewelry was very popular. Then, life became simpler for jewelry makers when they thought of using black glass from Czechoslovakia - haha!

Thanks very much, Diane! Yes, jett was popular in Victorian times though I suspect the earings are later, they look a bit Art Deco. Black glass is harder, jett scratches and chips easily,,,
