That is an interesting sign! I guess it means there is a railroad crossing ahead. And is that flash part of it(?) Warning for a power line above the railroad(?) But what is that metal bar below for(?) =O

Thank you so much, Sami! Yes, the rack railway (part of our tram network) is crossing the road there (I have now linked the wiki article in the description). I'm not sure what the flash sign means but the metal bar is just something for cyclists to hold on to so they don't have to dismount, it's usual also on traffic lights.

Ja gell! Ansonsten ist Stuttgart kein so gutes Pflaster für Velofahrer. Abwärts geht's hier sehr flott, aufwärts am besten mit Elektrounterstützung.... Die Downhill-Klientel fährt mit der Zacke (Zahnradbahn) nach oben und stürzt sich dann durch den Wald runter.

I suppose too many people had been leaning on such traffic signs too often. So, it has decided to attach such metal bar to lean on.

What comes to flash symbol, it indeed turned out warn for electric lines above the railway and road:

But now another dilemma emerged! Why there are two ways to hang these X signs(?) Upright and sideways! =O

Here in Finland it is always only sideways, and electric line above the tracks has become something considered as self-evident :

I have been googling a bit: in Germany both versions are allowed, the sideways version is the older one. In order to avoid collisions it had be be hung higher and drivers tended to overlook it, so they changed to upright where it takes up less space and could be erected at a height that drivers can see it immediately. I guess it has a lot to do with narrow German roads;-)

Brightly coloured and easy to see...........and I love the idea of having somewhere for the cyclists to grab on to. We have nothing like that here.

The lightening sign is normally a warning about high voltage electricity.

Very clear. No barriers?

No barriers at all, just lights. It's part of the tram network in town with one train ín each direction every 15 minutes and I know of no accidents there ( though there are plenty of accidents elsewhere with cars doing U-turns over tram lines where it's forbidden...)

Thanks very much, Amelia! So far I have cancelled two trips to Hamburg and my big summer holiday to Iceland. I would feel comfortable travelling in Iceland but not comfortable at all travelling by rail and plane to get there...
This trip here was on foot and yesterday I managed to see my mother for the first time since February. I went there by car with a friend and we stayed outside with the required distance all afternoon:-)

By the way. That rack railway thing is awesome! There's almost no limits on what people can up with.

It's a fantastic trip -this time I walked, though;-) We also have a cable car that leads up to a big cemetery in the woods (jokingly called the "legay hunter express"). It's also part of the tram network and doesn't cost extra.
