Waren ging im 13. Jh aus einer viel älteren slawischen Siedlung hervor, die erstmals 150 n.Chr. von Ptolemäus erwähnt wurde. Die Stadt liegt an der Müritz, dem mit 117km² größten ganz in Deutschland gelegenen See und ist das Tor zum Müritz-Nationalpark.

Waren originated in the 13th century from a much older Slavic settlement (first mentioned in 150 A.D. by Ptolemy). The town lies on the shores of Lake Müritz, at 117 km² the largest lake entirely within Germany, and is the gate to Müritz National Park.
