Großen Dank, Tanja! Die haben's dort im Polar Park vergleichsweise gut, riesiges naturbelassenes Gehege! Wir haben einen Wolf mit Krähe im Maul rumspazieren sehen;-)
Richtig krass war, als die Tierpflegerin geheult hat und die Wölfe eingestimmt haben!

So happy sieht er mir ja gar nicht aus, aber trotzdem: HFF!

Was this wolf one of the socialised ones, Guidrun? He looks a little forlorn, but from what I've read in your description, there is a lot of wild country to allow the wolves to roam almost freely.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! Yes, the ones in this enclosure were all socialised- beautiful animals! The park is cast and you probably won't see all animals because they have lots of space to hide. We had quite some (uphill) walking to do, the employees use quads;-)

daher ist der dominierende Zaun sehr wirkungsvoll!, Er lässt sich auch nicht minimieren, wenn das Tier so dicht davor steht ...

Besten Dank, Angelika! Die Wölfe dort kamen erst auf Rufe der Tierpflegerin überhaupt an den Zaun. Sost hätten wir sie in dem großen Gehege vermutlich gar ncht zu Gesicht bekommen:-)

So hinter dem Zaun könnte man glauben, er schaut traurig... Dieser Blick rührt mich irgendwie sehr. Toll festgehalten!

Ich wünsche dir und einen anderen, die hier kommentieren bzw. bereits kommentiert haben, auch ein schönes Wochenende!
Zu dem Zaun: glücklich macht der sicher niemanden, aber hier ist er wohl notwendig, und BioBauer hat Recht, dass die Populationen im natürlichen Gleichgewicht stehen müssen. Wölfe haben ja sonst keine natürlichen Feinde und da muss der Jäger halt regulierend eingreifen, nur nicht ausrotten.

Danke, Volker! So ist es, es muss ein Gleichgewicht herrschen. Ohne Eingriffe kommt das leicht in's Kippen, bei zu drastischen Eingriffen auch. Ohne den Zaun hier würden sich die Wölfe wohl über die Rentiere hermachen und die Leute sich dann über die Wölfe...

Thank you, Graham! I was glad the fence was there. I tried eliminating it in the photo but conditions were against me, visitors too far from the fence, the wolf too near.

Great wolf pic. Domestic dogs have been reclassified "Canis lupus familiaris" from DNA studies--turns out they're _that_ close to their wild cousins!

We hear coyotes here pretty commonly, and that sound can elicit some primal reactions--particularly when you're out hiking! ;)

I heard them howling safely behind their fence. I can well imagine it's a different matter when you're out hiking.or when you are in a lonely cottage in the middle of winter and the howling is coming nearer each day...

Wolves are back in the American and Canadian west, several distinct packs have moved into Oregon after being re-introduced in Montana and Idaho. There is one male & female pair in my area that had three cubs last year. Very interesting! Of course, livestock ranchers aren't happy, but it's still illegal to hunt them. Many American and Canadian ranchers are getting guardian dogs like Pyrenees and Anatolians as a way to live with the wolf population. I actually saw a local Anatolian dog in - of all places - Walmart last month and didn't have my camera! He was enormous and very sweet. (I'd love to have a big dog if I had a yard!)

Many thanks, Diane! Yes, wolves are also back in Germany and like in America farmers aren't happy even though they are getting compensated for every animal killed by a wolf (or other protected species like lynxes).
Are dogs allowed in Walmart? Here they have to stay out of shops.
