Möðrudalskirkja

Möðrudalskirkja
Möðrudalur (469m) is the highest and most isolated populated place in Iceland. It has been a working (sheep) farm since settlement times. The church was built in 1949 by farmer Jón Stefánsson in memory of his late wife.He also painted the picture over the altar (see note).

Thank you, Amelia! It's really incredible what Icelandic farmers in their isolation come up with- he even painted the altar picture himself! I have some more Icelandic churches which I will upload in due time;-)

Vielen Dank, Uli! Die Kirche hat der Bauer dort selber gebaut und er hat auch das Altarbild gemalt!
