there are many stories behind this photo. cass technical high school was built in 1917, and for decades was an all-city school providing accelerated programs in the arts and sciences, on 8 floors, with some 6,000 students. (I went there, as did my brothers and my father.) the building was replaced in 2005 by a new structure (seen in the background), and it sat vacant and vandalized for 6 years, until it was torn down this summer. it's now totally gone.
