Now I'm just a lonesome cowboy with a bit of wire, standing around uselessly. Admittedly, the translation "seal bank" is not really funny. In German the word "bank" also means "bench". Saw these cuddly seals on display outside a souvenir kiosk on the island of Sylt. There are few nicer things to do on a sunny summer evening after a long fell walk than going home across Derwentwater on board a launch by the name of "Princess Margaret Rose". These days Communist emblems seem to rise from the ashes as items of merchandise - proving Karl Marx right who raised the theory that in a capitalist society everything can be exchanged for money thus providing profits for the shareholders. Alexander Rodtschenko, one of the pioneers of photography in the young Soviet Union. The motto of his work was that a new era required a new way of looking at society and a new way of portraying what one saw. Thus many of his shots were taken from unusual viewpoints or unexpected angles. The exhibition poster was hanging in a glass case at an underground station. I found the tiles made a nice background. Various artists painted their works on the longest remaining part of the Berlin Wall soon after it was opened in 1989, thus creating the "East Side Gallery". It is a Listed Building now, which did not keep some investors from tearing a gap into it only recently. Of course this led to the formation of a protest movement, which put a temporary stop to the further destruction of the wall. There is hope that the wall - and with it the gallery - will remain. It's spring at Lake Krupunder - men are behaving like little boys playing with their model sailboats.
