China Postcard, c1910

No handwriting or postmarks on the back. I've guessed at the time period, based on other, similar cards I've seen on other sites. Text says only: "Union Postale Universelle, Post Card, Made In China." Enlarged to show detail.

Honestly, if you got anyone in this country to eat a salad in 1962, it made the front page of the local newspaper. From the July issue of Everywoman's Family Circle magazine. Originally posted to flickr on February 14th, 2011.

This was young Jeremy's introduction to foil hats. Sadly, he'd still be wearing them 50 years later, but not to parties if you get my drift.

I find it hard to believe these pictures were brand-new in 1962, to be honest.

Oh, for the days when a party ham was the size of a pro-wrestler's torso! Or when Grandma would make you a skirt from her chair covers and send you out to twirl awkwardly under Granddad's watchful eye! Front and back covers of a promotional recipe leaflet published by Swift & Company. Originally posted to flickr on January 30th, 2011.

"The gardener who works at this potting bench belongs to an army of Westerners with a month of busy weekends ahead. Before you start your planting spree, see page 66." Also, build a greenhouse because getting rained on eight hours a day gets old fast. :P

Time For Ice Cream (13), 1947/48

From the last chapter: "Ice Cream for the Children's Party." The clowns don't look very cheerful, do they? Are they bummed out because the war is over, or are they anticipating the one that's still waiting in the wings? The answer is lost to history. The little girl facing Mother appears to be holding some fusion of a hammer and pliers in her right hand. On that confusing note, our saga ends.

L. Looks like a grimacing cupcake, but okay. A lot of these recipes look to be holdovers from the war. They're big on stand-in sweeteners like corn syrup, honey, molasses, and dried fruit. Very light on butter and eggs. R. Looks like Dad came home drunk again and ate half the cake that Mother was saving for her luncheon with the girls tomorrow. You're kind of a jerk, Dad.

Is it possible they might be overstating their case here? I think plopping ice cream into hot chocolate, in lieu of whipped cream, would be counterproductive.
