I looked up this movie ("Serenade"), but I'll never watch it. I'm allergic to opera.

I think that copper demitasse pot was in every U.S. cooking guide between 1950 and 1975.

"Football fans will tear down the grandstand-- if you build it with cheese! This platter, with a simple football field design on green paper, with cheese and olives ingeniously used as players, makes a perfect snack tray for before and after game parties. The clever hostess can develop similar ideas for other events."

Aunt Sue was the only family member eccentric enough to serve anything on crackers besides Velveeta. :D

Front and back covers of a 32-page promotional booklet put out by The American Dairy Association, Chicago, Illinois. I estimated its age, since I have another ADA booklet from that year which shares several photos with this one.

For hours, they ferociously debated whether existence truly could precede essence. Neither gave way even an inch. But now, it's time to rest.

No visual reference to Christmas at all, except for the giant red bow. That's why I don't feel ashamed posting this in July.

The back cover looks so bright and futuristic. Like this is really how your produce is gonna' look when it emerges from its arctic jail a month from now.
"Written under the guidance of James D. Winter (!!!), M.S. Professor of Horticulture... University Farm, St. Paul... A great deal of his time outside working hours is spent on experimenting with frozen foods as a hobby."
There you have it.

"YOU'RE ON YOUR WAY TO BETTER LIVING-- WITH YOUR NEW HOME FREEZER."
I'm haunted by the proximity of dog food to human food. (Was that one unit all the freezer space that the supermarket had?) Then there's the word "saps" stuck so close to Mrs. America's face. Just a Freudian slip from the promo people, I'm sure.

I love this picture. You'd rarely see actual half-eaten food in the fantasy land of old-time advertising. Of course, they're too demure to use such an earthy descriptor. [shrug]
Once again, the rule is that type and animal products should not share a page. This time, the "Combination Dishes and Leftovers" heading appears on the page before the photo. Layout consistency was for Commies, I guess.

There's two entire pages about the complexities of freezing sandwiches. Was this a common practice at some point? Should I call my Mom and demand to know why she never proved her love for me by giving me my ham on rye or PBJ on wheat straight from the freezer?
