Coal Paper Weight - Something that used to be something else.

Coal Paper Weight - Something that used to be something else.
Several years ago, my fiancé and I went into a coal mine in Pennsylvania. I had always wanted to experience what coal miners felt so it was quite a trip going into the earth. This is a piece of coal from the mine. i now use it as a paper weight and a reminder of a great time.

Pix of inside of coal mine in notes. PS. We didn't chisel the coat out of the wall. It was already chiseled.

An intriguing story and keepsake ... nicely captured too, but pardon my stupidity doesn't it mark the papers you sit it on?

No. It is not soft coal. It is hard coal and doesn't leave any residue.

Cool trip and keepsake - years ago we went also into a coal mine and last year into a salt mine. I'm always a bit anxious so deep beneath the earth.

Very nice keepsake from that mine. I wouldn't like to go in there by the look of it. I've only ever been in one mine and that was the Blue John mine in Derbyshire, England.

I would never think that coal could be so pretty. Nicely photographed and interesting story, Cordia. :)

(the pip is so scary. I don't think I could have stayed down there very long.)

Well done Cordia! :-) We don't see much of that around here. The coal here tends to flake apart as it dries out. The coal balls are pretty hard though.
