Toury - Louis Blériot

Toury - Louis Blériot
Toury is not only known for an Merovingian settlement or the nice parish church, dedicated to Saint-Denis. Toury is worldwide known as an important place in the life of famous French aviator Louis Blériot.

After Blériot managed two flights of over 500 metres, including a successful U-turn in December 1906, he succeeded in making a cross-country flight from Toury to Artenay and back, a total distance of 28 km on 31 October 1908.

On 25 July 1909 Louis Blériot was the first to cross the English Channel by plane, winning a prize of £1,000 offered by the Daily Mail newspaper.
