Montmorillon

Montmorillon
Late summer afternoon in Montmorillon. Overlooking the town from the cliff, where once the Saracens had a fortification, what explains the name of the small town "Mons Maurillio". The semicircular Romanesque choir of Notre-Dame is to the right, the medieval bridge (built 1404) over the Gartempe river to the left. Notre Dame is known for the frescoes of it's crypt, dedicated to Sainte Catherine. Though the church was open next day, the crypt was locked.
