Canfranc - Pon Nou

Canfranc - Pon Nou
"Pon Nou" means "New Bridge" - this structure replaces an older bridge. The older bridge had been destroyed by a flood of the Rio Aragon and this one was built in 1599, but looks much older. Actually the Pon Nou is "signed". There is a stone inscription, telling us "RAMON ME FECIT 1599"

Elbertinum, have particularly liked this photo

Really built in 1599? And it´s known there was another bridge before which is gone because of flooding? Amazing.

This arched bridge indeed looks older than it is actually. The Pon Nou, Ramon the architect designed in 1599, was not state of the art - but still is pretty robust.
