Our gorgeous little fun loving Chihuahua Percy went blind at the end of March, literally overnight. Monday he could see, Tuesday he was bumping into things and Wednesday he was declared completely blind, which was confirmed by a ophthalmic specialist on the Thursday. He got SARDS, Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration. Very unusual, and usually more common in bitches over the age of 7. He is a dog just turned 5 years of age. It is not holding him back though and he is coping really well, we are so proud of him.

Awww, I can see why it was an awful shock. I would have expected blindness to be gradual, but it's awful for it to just happen overnight like this. It's wonderful that he's adjusting though. Our nephew and his family keep Chinese shar peis which tend to lose their sight after a while, and they said that if they keep everything in the same place in the home and garden, the dogs soon get used to where everything is.
Percy, otherwise, looks very healthy, spirited and happy. Animals are amazing how they can cope with such drastic life-changes.
