In between having a look at a new resthome for my Mum and visiting her in her current home, I went and visited the Gannet Colony at Muriwai Regional Park. It was a nice place to unwind and just watch the birds and enjoy nature. Although it was the tail end of the breeding season, there were still some youngsters around (including some fairly newly hatched) and plenty of activity going on.

Thanks Pam. It was good to spend time with Dad and see Mum. She is much quieter than she was last year, and has even less conversational skills (if any) which was sad, but she seemed relatively settled which was good. It is never long enough though, and so hard to leave.

Hi there! I figured I'd start to join in here. I've decided to stay on ipernity, and make it my 'regular home'.

These pictures of gannets are awesome! I saw one at a local wild animal rescue centre and it seemed much bigger than what I imagined them to be. I also saw them in Scotland, but in the distance, diving for fish. Fascinating to watch, and I'd have spent hours watching this wonderful colony.

Thank you for your encouraging comment. They are fascinating to watch for sure. I did stay for quite some time just watching them.
