The summer has irretrievably slipped into the first days of autumn, the days are shorter and the nights cooler, the insects chase the last few days of heat in the long grass.

This actually happened. We were walking in the woods near Montreal and ran into the wicked stepmother from Snow White posing for a photographer. Snow white was also there and was helping the photographer with his lighting.

This great blue heron ( Ardea herodias ) flew past us on a lakeside in Parc St Bruno (near Montreal). They are big birds with a wingspan that can be 2 metres.

A fritillary butterfly feeding on thistles along a wooded footpath. There were several of them and they were all interested in the thistles to the exclusion of any other plant. Un papillon se nourrissant de chardons sur un sentier boisé. Il y avait plusieurs d'entre eux, et ils étaient tous intéressés à des chardons à l'exclusion de toute autre plante.
