Dalmation Pelican (+ PiP)

Dalmation Pelican (+ PiP)
Another image of one of the pelicans at WWT Arundel plus another in the PiP.

The pelicans have their flight feathers trimmed annually to prevent them from flying off. This seems cruel but this species of pelican has declined greatly over the past 100 years. The most likely reason is habitat loss due to human activities such as the drainage of wetlands and land development. These ones are part of conservation efforts taking part throughout Europe.

Der Flug der Pelikane - ich kann mir kaum etwas schönes ansehen wenn sie wie Wellen über das Wasser gleiten

What a sad story Jean Paul.........but you did very well to rescue, treat and eventually release one of the birds back into the wild, so well done for that!

I like to think that people's attitudes have changed since that happened.
