wcl - Walk to Crammel Linn

Official exercise on 4th May 2020, for a change to our usual "over the common" route. We walked to Crammel Linn waterfall on the River Irthing, just above Gilsland. The first part of the walk was across rough grazing, so I didn't take any images. On a previous visit, the rate of waterflow was somewhat higher. After our initial walk, we went up past the falls to another area of minor interest. Some ruined buildings that I understand were to do with pumping water up to the silo / test sites for "Blue Streak" [project cancelled 1960 by the military, but went on as part of a civilian space launch rocket "Europa" as part of what became the European Space Agency ]

It is very beautiful, but the access is difficult. As a local cow found out a few months later ...
