ncm[26] - blank arcading

ncm[26] - blank arcading
Originally faced with Caen Stone over a flint / rubble core, it was completely refaced in Bath Stone when the outer shell of the keep was extensively repaired in 1835–1839 by the architect Anthony Salvin. Despite stonemason James Watson faithfully reproducing the original ornamentation, there was considerable opposition to the work.

see also "Castle Rising Castle" - the keep there has similar features, as does some parts of Norwich Cathedral.
