JBB[25]/bri[25] - Langholm : bridge 1 of 3
Boatford Bridge, over the River Esk - built to allow mill workers a shorter commute. Known locally as the "spring" bridge - and it does bounce a bit under pedestrians !
Cat "B" listed :- 1871 pedestrian suspension bridge designed by Messrs Herneulewiczs and Co, London, collapsed on opening day. Present steel suspension bridge constructed also presumably 1871 re-using original open-worked pylons with finials. Walkway parapets are open fencing, the deck timbers replaced and ramped walkway asphalted 1985.
