UKR[24] - Mazut spills in Kerch Strait {15th Dec 2024}

sitrep : 15th Dec 2024 {pt2} ---
Two vessels, Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239, have declared emergency and are sinking in the Kerch strait. Estimated to have13 crew members on each, rescue operation is ongoing.

NOTE : the loss of these two tankers - both transporting a low-quality heavy fuel oil [mazut] - was due to weather conditions NOT actions by UKR. Sadly, the pollution has been quite significant, although some areas and birds were cleaned, there wasn't the political will to follow-up and finish the clearing up.
Plus, one of a the tankers went aground and continues to leak oil into the sea and storm conditions continue to bring the mazut/crap ashore.
