The idea of using a "jumping net" to catch casualties leaving another vessel might have been a sound idea in theory, but as the RNLI also found, it didn't always work well in practice, especially when the sea conditions were rough. Part of the problem was actually dismounting from the net onto the lifeboat's deck.
