Eichenschrecke
This insect's body is about 2.5 cm long (maybe a bit shorter). I saw it near Stuttgart (Germany).

To me, my insect looks more like Meconema meridionale. According to the German Wikipedia page, M. meridionale does live in Germany, especially in the south-west.
But I doubt it's a young insect. Its size is that of a grown-up (imago?), and the German Wikipedia article about M. meridionale claims that the females lay their eggs between August and October.
Given that, I'd not expect to see juveniles at the beginning of August...
