Blick aus unserem Schlafzimmerfenster. Es ist Sonntag, 4.7.2010, gegen 8:00 Uhr morgens. Daß es regnet, haben wir schon früher gemerkt, aber daß es solche Ausmaße angenommen hat, erkennen wir erst jetzt. Zu spät, um unser Auto oder anderes Zeug aus dem Keller zu retten... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Viewed from our beedroom window. It is Sunday, 2010-07-04, at about eight o'clock in the morning. We had noticed the rain before, but we did not notice its extent until now. Too late to try to rescue our car or other things from the cellar...

Dieser See ist normalerweise Parkplatz und Zufahrt unserer Nachbarn. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This lake is, under normal circumstances, our neighbours' parking lot and driveway.

Der eine Besen und der eine Stiel (danke an den, der sie da angebracht hat) haben tatsächlich gereicht, die Tür so zu blockieren, daß die Wassermassen sie nicht eingedrückt haben. Von hier aus ist nicht mehr als ein kleines Rinnsal in unseren Keller geflossen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A single broom and a single broomstick (thanks to the guy who put both in place) were indeed sufficient to bar the door so that the water could not open it. From here, no more than a trickle ran into the cellar.

Der Bach ist normalerweise der Gehweg von den Hauseingängen zur Straße. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What looks like a creek is, under normal circumstances, the footpath to the road.

Hier kann man erkennen, daß auch die Straße satt überschwemmt ist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The road is flooded, too.

Der Höhepunkt ist überschritten, die ersten versuchen schon, das Wasser aus ihren Kellern herauszukriegen. Aber es soll noch Tage dauern und zahlreiche Pumpen benötigen, bis das geschafft ist. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The flood is past its maximum, and the first people try to get the water out of their cellars. It will take several days, and numerous pumps, however, to complete this task.

Die Haustür. Sie ist normal hoch - der Bach draußen ist also hier ca. 70cm tief. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our front door. It is of normal height, i.e. the water outside is about 70cm deep.

This flower - maybe 20 cm high - grows on a roadside in the city where I live.
