How beautiful the meadow seems today!

I recall the wondrous flowers well,
Which once tried to twine themselves
Around me to my head,
But I never saw such tender and delicate
Grasses, blossoms and flowers,
Which all smelled so lovely and fresh,
And spoke to me with such tender familiarity.

It is the tears of remorse wept by sinners
That have, today, sprinkled field and plain
With holy dew,
Which thereby consecreates them.
Today all living things rejoice
In God’s dear grace
And wish to praise Him in prayer.

All creatures now show gratitude,
All that flourishes and will soon pass,
For Nature is renewed,
And has gained its day of innocence.
