Leaf Hopper and Reflection

23 Jun 2013 2 931
Insect macro imaging doesn't have to stop when the sun sets. This image was made well after dark under the floodlights outside the sun room in rural upstate Columbia County, New York, USA. Many insects were drawn to the outside lighting including this very small green colored Leaf Hopper. I imaged this one on the door frame under the floodlights. This is a 2.8:1, at the sensor, macro. If you view this one large there is good face and compound eye detail. For this image, I used my manual focus Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 52BB SP 90mm f2.5 Macro Lens and Tamron Adaptall-2 18f 1:1 Tube and Tamron Adaptall-2 140f 1.4X Flat Field Teleconverter and Tamron Adaptall-2 01f 2X Flat Field Teleconverter with attached Tamron Adaptall-2 Pentax K A Mount, all mounted to Pentax K20D Camera, hand held, manually focused by moving the entire assembly back and forth, Shake Reduction set to 300mm, ISO 400, f13 on lens, 1/90 sec, with fill-in flash from camera's built-in electronic flash. This is a Full Resolution Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) and is without any post processing, editing, adjustment, cropping, or re-sizing.

Female Northern Cardinal, Cardinalis cardinalis

03 Mar 2013 9 3 1059
This image is from March 03, 2013. The birds were on a feeding frenzy as the snow was falling. This female Northern Cardinal stopped long enough to allow me this fairly crisp image from her perch on the deck railing about six to eight feet from my camera. I imaged this Cardinal in rural upstate Columbia County, New York, USA. For this image, I used my manual focus Tamron Adaptall-2 model 55BB SP 500mm f8 Tele Macro mirror lens with attached Tamron Adaptall-2 Pentax K M mount on Pentax K20D body, manually focused. hand held at the camera with the lens barrel resting on the window sill and pointed out the opened bathroom window, Shake Reduction set to 500mm, ISO 400, f8, 1/125 sec., with available ambient light. This full resolution large JPEG was edited in FastStone to slightly lighten the shadows to bring out some eye detail.

Male Palm Warbler

I imaged this one along the boardwalk by the western side of Sunderland Pond in Ooms Conservation Area in Chatham, Columbia County, New York, USA. This guy seemed to enjoy posing for me. For this image, I used my manual focus Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 55BB SP 500mm f8 Mirror Lens and Tamron Adaptall-2 140f 1.4X Flat Field Teleconverter with attached Tamron Adaptall-2 Pentax K M Mount on Pentax K20D Camera, hand held, manually focused, Manual mode, Shake Reduction set to 700mm, ISO 400, f8 on lens, 1/250 sec, with available ambient light. My lens was functioning as a 700mm f11 Mirror Lens. This is a full resolution Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) and is without any post-processing, editing, adjustment, cropping, or re-sizing.

I do not own the AF 18-55mm kit lens for this camera. The Model 27A lens with a Tamron Adaptall-2 Pentax K A mount gives me the 28-80mm coverage and is currently functioning as my normal lens. I also own a Vivitar 17-28mm f4-4.5 lens in the Pentax K A mount, which provides my wide angle coverage. This image was taken on the deck railing in rural upstate Columbia County, New York, USA, with a Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) camera and Canon AF EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens, hand held in Av mode, Auto Focused, with available ambient light. This is a full resolution Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) without any resizing, cropping, or adjustment.

Close-up Set-up to 1:2

27 Feb 2012 355
This is an image of my Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) Camera and attached AF Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 LD Tele-Macro Lens. This set-up is capable in macro mode (as shown) to 1:2, half life size, at the sensor. I bought this lens "As Is" from KEH in EX condition for $25 US. The AF is broken and does not function. This lens works beautifully as a manual focus lens. For this image, I used my manual focus Vivitar PK-A/R 17-28mm f4-4.5 Wide Angle Zoom Lens on Pentax K20D camera, manually focused, hand held, SR 28mm, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/20 sec, with available ambient light. This is a full resolution large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) without any adjustment, cropping, or resizing.

Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 65A Lens

01 May 2012 443
This is an image of a used lens I purchased in February, 2012. The lens is a manual focus Tamron Adaptall-2 Model 65A SP 35-105mm f2.8 Aspherical Lens with attached Tamron Adaptall-2 A3FH Lens Hood, shown mounted to my Pentax K20D camera. I bought it used from KEH with the zoom function very loose. I tried several ideas to try to remedy the problem with the zoom function and was able to resolve the problem quickly and at no cost. I folded a piece of a note card and inserted it between the two lens barrels and it is held in place with a rubber band. This provides just enough friction to keep the lens barrel still and will also zoom easily. For this image, I used my Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) Camera and Canon AF EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens, hand held, manually focused, 54mm F/L, ISO 400, f20, 1/200 sec, with fill-in flash from camera's built-in electronic flash. This is a Large JPEG and is Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) and is without any adjustment, editing, cropping, or re-sizing.

Rattlesnake Portrait

11 Jun 2013 366
We had visited the Great Dismal Swamp in Suffolk, Virginia, USA, along the road to Lake Drummond and stopped for the boardwalk to the Underground Railroad Pavilion. We were approached by a ranger who stopped to ask if we had seen the rattlesnake. A previous visitor reported the sighting. The Timber Rattlesnake, likely a female, was resting in the vegetation next to the boardwalk. We had walked right past her and did not see her until the ranger pointed her out to us. This image shows the face of the snake among the vegetation. For this image, I used my Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) Camera and attached AF Tamron Model 572D 70-300mm f4-5.6 LD Tele-Macro Lens, manually focused, hand held, macro mode, Focal Length 300mm, ISO 1600, f25, 1/200 sec, with fill-in flash from camera's built-in electronic flash.
