HWW Borobudur Central Java Indonesia 28th June 1981
Borobudur is a Buddhist stupa and temple complex in Central Java, dating from the 8th century. It is one of the world's great ancient monuments, the single largest Buddhist structure anywhere on earth.
Borobudur lay abandoned and hidden for centuries under layers of volcanic ash and thick jungle growth until The British governor Thomas Stamford Raffles instigated its partial exhumation in 1814.
I thought it was crowded in 1981 but since it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 it has become the most popular tourist attraction in modern day Indonesia and a major international attraction.
HWW to everyone. Enjoy the day.

HBM Valencia Spain 6th March 2024
We visited the City of Arts & Sciences in Valencia to view the Ninot exhibition which was on as part of the Falles festival.
The museum area is a state-of-the-art science complex set within a landscaped park with a huge aquarium & IMAX screen. The buildings are very modern and impressive.
HBM to everyone. Continue enjoying the Easter weekend!

Medan North Sumatra Indonesia 1st June 1980
A fairly early Sunday morning drive around the city of Medan. This is Jalan Letjen Suprapto although I notice that the modern spelling (from Google) is different from that on the street sign on the far left.
I worked in the Mobil Oil Indonesia office further back on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman - the former pre-war Shell office.

HFF Terlingua Texas USA 3rd October 1980
Terlingua graveyard in West Texas on the northern edge of Big Bend National Park.
The discovery of cinnabar, from which the metal mercury is extracted, in the mid-1880s brought miners to the Terlingua area, creating a city of 2,000 people. The only remnants of the mining days are a ghost town of the Chisos Mining Company and several nearby capped and abandoned mines. The population today is 78!
Terlingua features in Wim Wenders' movie Paris, Texas.
HFF everyone. Enjoy your Easter weekend.

Kruger National Park South Africa 20th May 1982
We drove from Johannesburg to Kruger Park for a short break spending just one night at Pretoriuskop in the park. With no particular plan we just drove around for the day and were surprised how many animals were about although we didn't see any big cats.
This pod of hippos were lazing about in the river. In fact they are among the most dangerous animals in the world due to their aggressive and unpredictable nature.
