The Monsall Trail is a foot and cycle path that follows the trackbed of the former 1863 Midland Railway Derby to Manchester main line route from Bakewell to Chee Tor near Buxton which closed to trains in 1967.

The engineering works needed to build this line through the limestone of the White Peak and along the narrow Wye Valley were impressive. These walls of limestone cut into the hillside are particularly deep.
